Imagine moving with ease, waking up each day feeling centred, steady, and supported in your body. Slow Yoga at the Morley Noranda Recreation Centre is designed to help you do just that. It’s not about forcing yourself into difficult positions or chasing flexibility — it’s about coming home to your body and building a foundation of strength, balance, and calm that supports you in everyday life.
Yoga is well known for its many benefits: improved flexibility, better posture, reduced stress, and greater overall vitality. But one of the most practical and lasting gifts it offers is support for your back and core health. Back pain is one of the most common issues people face, whether from long hours sitting, repetitive work, or simply the natural changes that come with age. Slow, mindful yoga helps to ease tension in tight muscles, strengthen deep core stabilisers, and encourage the body to move in healthy alignment.
In our classes, transitions are breath-centred and unhurried. You’ll find yourself slowing down, moving with awareness, and discovering the natural rhythm of your breath as a guide. Longer holds in simple, accessible postures give the body time to release tension and the mind space to settle. This combination of gentle strength-building and mindful stillness develops both resilience and relaxation — the balance your back and nervous system need.
Strengthening the core is especially important for back health. A stable core provides support for the spine, improves balance, and reduces the risk of strain in daily activities. Through slow yoga practice, you’ll strengthen these deep muscles without stress or force. At the same time, gentle stretching and mindful mobility help to create space in the spine, release stiffness, and restore freedom of movement.
What makes Slow Yoga unique is its accessibility. You don’t need to be flexible, strong, or experienced to join. Every practice is adaptable to your needs, offering a safe way to build confidence in your body while cultivating ease and vitality.
If you’ve been looking for a practice that supports your back, strengthens your core, and restores balance to body and mind — this is it. Come as you are. Everybody is welcome.
