Class Times
Chair yoga is a safe, inclusive, and surprisingly effective way to move your body, improve balance, and calm your mind. Our classes blend gentle seated and supported standing yoga exercises with short mindfulness meditation sits. No experience is needed — classes are light-hearted, welcoming, and designed to leave you feeling relaxed yet energised.
Whether you’re recovering from injury, managing mobility concerns, or simply looking for a gentle yet engaging movement practice, chair yoga offers the benefits of yoga without the need to get down on the floor.
Yes, chair yoga is an excellent option for seniors, providing a safe and accessible way to improve flexibility, strength, balance, and overall well-being. It’s a low-impact exercise that minimises strain on the joints, making it particularly beneficial for those with mobility limitations or age-related changes.
Chair yoga can also improve proprioception — your body’s internal “sixth sense” for position and movement. This sense draws on information from sensory receptors in the joints, tendons, and muscles, along with input from your inner ear (vestibular system), eyes, and skin. Improved proprioception means better coordination, steadier balance, and more confidence in everyday movement.
Short, guided meditation sits are woven into each class. These focus on breath awareness, encouraging a calm parasympathetic “rest and digest” state. This supports emotional balance, mental clarity, and a greater sense of presence in daily life.
It’s never too late. Benefits can begin from your very first class, and even small, gradual improvements in strength and balance can bring big rewards over time.
If certain movements are challenging or progress feels slow, a yoga instructor experienced with older adults (like in our classes) can adapt the practice for your needs. If you have pain, injury, unexplained fatigue, or muscle weakness, it’s wise to check with a doctor before beginning a new form of exercise.
Chair yoga is for everybody. It’s gentle enough for those with mobility concerns yet engaging enough to challenge coordination and focus. It’s a place to move, breathe, and connect — all while supporting your local health hub.
See you Tuesday or Friday — your body and mind will thank you.
